Geoff Jackson, Chief Executive Officer

Geoff is a founding Director of Equitix. Since establishing Equitix in 2007, Geoff has successfully built and led a team of professionals, who have become respected development and investment managers in core infrastructure projects. Geoff led a number of Equitix’s initial investments particularly in the education sector, achieving Financial Close on Greenwich and Essex BSF projects partnering with Babcock and Skanska respectively. He plays an active role in all aspects of the business and sits on the board of Equitix Holdings as well as the Investment Committees for all the Equitix Funds. Geoff has over 40 years of development and construction industry experience. Prior to founding Equitix, he was Managing Director of Programme Management with Skanska Infrastructure Development, running all PPP bidding and in particular, was responsible for leading the team that produced the winning proposal for the £1.4 billion Bart’s and the Royal London Hospital PFI bid. Prior to joining Skanska, he was the Divisional Director at Bovis Lend Lease responsible for some of the first UK PFI healthcare projects. Geoff is a Chartered Builder (MCIOB), a graduate of Hertfordshire College of Building, Reading University (CM course), and Brighton University (MSC Construction modules).

Hugh Crossley, Chief Investment Officer

Hugh is a founding Director of Equitix. Bringing over 23 years of industry experience, he is responsible for investor relations and has managed the establishment of Equitix’s previous five core funds. As Chair of the Investment Committee, Hugh oversees the investment and portfolio management functions and is responsible for the administration and optimisation of the Funds’ assets. He is actively involved in the majority of Equitix’s acquisitions and has managed the bids for all of the Equitix co-investments including the successful bids for the Sheringham Shoal, M25 and HS1. Prior to joining Equitix, Hugh was Commercial Manager at John Laing where he managed Laing’s investments into the Social Housing and Hospital sectors including Bart’s and the Royal London Hospital as well as the acquisition of two Canadian Hospitals. Prior to John Laing, he worked for Bechtel Corporation both in London and the USA, working in Power, Airport Development and Civils. Hugh graduated with a BSc (Honours) in Environmental & Ecological Engineering from the University of Newcastle and is a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA).

Jonathan Smith, Chief Financial Officer

Jon joined Equitix in May 2007 and heads the Group’s Finance activities. He has worked on a number of transactions whilst at Equitix including secondary acquisitions of health, education and leisure projects and primary projects across all sectors. In particular, Jon leads the technical, financial and accounting team on behalf of the Equitix consortium bidding for renewable energy transmission projects (OFTOs). Jon sits on the Fund Investment Committees for all of the Equitix Funds and the Board of Equitix Holdings and the general partners for all funds managed by Equitix. He led the bid for the University of Salford and was a key member of the commercial bidding team responsible for closing Greater Gabbard, Equitix’s first investment into the offshore transmission projects (OFTOs). Jon has over 16 years of infrastructure experience. Prior to joining Equitix, Jon was with John Laing primarily involved in acute hospital deals as well as police and criminal justice and LIFT projects throughout the UK. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Management Accountants and holds a BA (Honours) in Finance and Corporate Structuring.

Siôn Jones, Chief Operating Officer

Siôn joined Equitix in July 2010. He oversees the manager’s portfolio of funds and is a member of the Investment Committee. Siôn heads the monthly Asset Management meetings with the Equitix SPV Board Directors and in turn reports into the monthly Investment Committee performance reviews. He is responsible for maximising asset performance and optimising corporate cash flows. Siôn sits on the board of a number of portfolio assets including High Speed One, Birmingham Highways, Sheffield Highways, Gwynt-y- Mor OFTO, Humber OFTO, Greater Gabbard OFTO and Thanet OFTO. Siôn brings over 19 years of industry experience to the team. Prior to joining Equitix, Siôn was a partner at King Sturge where he was responsible for asset and project company management, including assets partially owned by EF I. Siôn established the Corporate Finance division of King Sturge with responsibility for creating institutional and private equity real estate investment vehicles. Siôn has also worked for Arthur Andersen in the Specialist Finance Group, and for Standard and Poor’s in the Fund Research department. Siôn has a BSc Honours in Chemistry from the University of Southampton. He is a CFA charterholder and holds an Investment Management Certificate and a Certificate in Securities from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Achal Bhuwania, Deputy Chief Investment Officer

Achal joined Equitix in July 2013. Achal is a member of the pre-screening committee which analyses opportunities before submission to the Fund Investment Committee. Achal is focused on the origination and execution of transactions and managing the acquisitions team. Since joining Equitix, he has successfully closed more than 20 deals across various sub-sectors and recent transactions led by Achal include HS1 and M25. Achal has more than 12 years of experience in the project finance and infrastructure sector with experience across transport, social infrastructure, utility infrastructure, waste to energy and renewables. Prior to Equitix, Achal was an Associate Director at KPMG Corporate Finance in London where he led teams in PPP M&A advisory assignments and valuation of infrastructure assets across transport, regulated utilities, PPP and renewables. His deal experience involves several firsts which includes the first major disposal of PFI interests by the public sector and the first secondary deal in the waste PFI sector. His valuation experience ranges across more than 100 PFI projects across sub-sectors including, Anglian Water, Electricity North West, Yorkshire Water, Angel Trains, Brussels airport, Copenhagen airport, AB Ports and Peel ports. He holds a 1st class B.Com (Hons) degree in Accounting, Economics and Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce (Delhi University, India) and completed his CA with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Peter Roughton, General Counsel & Compliance Officer

Peter joined Equitix in 2015 from the Infrastructure Investments team at Balfour Beatty, where he was a senior lawyer. He has over 17 years of legal experience and has been involved in both primary and secondary infrastructure transactions from various perspectives including as buyer and seller. Most notably, in respect of primary projects, he played a major role in achieving Financial Close on the Greater Gabbard and Gwynt y Môr OFTOs as part of the Equitix/ Balfour Beatty consortium that won the two projects through the competitive Ofgem tender process. On the sale side, he was a core member of the team at Balfour Beatty which effected the disposals of PPP/PFI from its investment portfolio (between 2006 and 2015). Since joining Equitix, Peter has been involved in a number of acquisitions made by Equitix funds including the John Laing Infrastructure Fund acquisition, Wales & Borders, the Elizabeth Line, M25, High Speed 1 projects and Sheringham Shoal projects. Peter is responsible for negotiating legal documentation including consortium agreements/MoUs, SPAs, disclosure letters, shareholders’ agreements, financial and commercial agreements such as operations & maintenance agreements; legal/ commercial support on bidding activities and transaction structuring. His extensive experience includes advising on regulatory and compliance issues; managing due diligence, risk mitigation; closing and refinancing projects; advising on secondary market PPP transactions (both as buyer and seller) and pre-emption scenarios. In addition, he has been involved with the set-up and establishment of various fund structures. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty in 2006, Peter was a solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for five years where his focus was on major corporate sales and acquisitions across a number of sectors. Peter holds an M.A. in law from the University of Cambridge, Selwyn College.
